NPT Issue #5: My Take on Generative AI Chatbots
Hello to My Readers ππ½
I'm back again with another issue of NPT! I hope you've been learning from me and viewing things from a new perspective. I would love to learn from you too and hear what you have to say in the comments. Whether you are a familiar face or a new reader, I will be equally happy to engage with your contributions to the newsletter. Please don't be shy and do be rest assured that there is no judgement, embarrassment or stigma here. It is a safe and open space with everyone working towards the betterment of society by making it so that technology can be a net positive for society.
Recap of Previous Issue ⬅️π°
In the previous issue of NPT, I shared my initial opinion of AI as a whole and backed my opinions with experiences and stories to illustrate my points. It was a more personal issue of the newsletter but I felt it was a welcome change. Something to give insight into the person writing each issue of the newsletter.
Foreword π️
I will be talking about my take on generative AI chatbots in this issue. These are instances, scenarios, use cases and examples of where I've found generative AI chatbots to be quite useful. It has been a refreshing and welcome phenomenon to watch people play with generative AI and see what they can do. It isn't perfect but neither is any human being. With that being said, we cannot expect perfection from imperfect data since AI is trained on human data. So, we must manage our expectations and levels of disappointment when things don't go as we hoped regarding AI.
My Take on Generative AI Chatbots
In my opinion, generative AI chatbots are effective but inefficient. This is sufficient for the economic markets and for users to interact with. It's a start but we ought to move beyond it. The inefficiencies of these chatbots begin to show in the way they are architected and the way they calculate sentences being output to users. These are two things that we can improve on and things can get better as a result. If we can make generative AI chatbots more sustainable as they themselves help us reach our sustainability targets, we will be on course for very prosperous years ahead. It's about managing rates of change, accepting that generative AI chatbots are a starting point and embracing the fact that AI is not perfect as it is based on human data which in turn is also not perfect. We need to shift our mentality when dealing with, reasoning about and expecting from AI.
Generative AI Chatbot FortΓ©s
There are some things I've found generative AI chatbots to be effective and adept at from my experience of using ChatGPT by OpenAI, Le Chat by Mistral, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Poe by Quora, Grok by xAI, Claude by Anthropic. I will share them below to spread awareness. Please share yours in the comment section too as I am always open to learn better ways to do things.
- Better Question-Answering: Ask better questions by challenging our assumptions and guiding our reasoning to bring us to higher ground from an intelligence standpoint, Dr. Lanning from iRobot with us being Detective Spooner.
- Teacher Explanation: Understand things on a deeper level through well-explained concepts and effective examples.
- Insightful Analysis: Upon being fed with data in any format, these chatbots routinely provide novel and intriguing insights which one would not have intuited or thought of otherwise. This capability is a leap forward in data processing and showcases how generative AI can provide counsel to human beings when decision-making, strategizing, reflecting or doing policy analysis to create better incentives to achieve economic breakthroughs at the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels. Really when doing any form of analytical task, we can see that generative AI chatbots' abilities do come to the fore.
- Emotional Intelligence: Process, reflect, understand, accept and embrace our emotions for healthier interactions with fellow human beings and better relationships over time driven mainly by empathy stemming from the learnings imparted on us from interacting with generative AI chatbots.
- Conversationalist: Provide a listening ear or be a conversationalist when one feels they cannot have discussions they would like to have with their immediate friend group or family.
- Impartial Companion: Be a companion through showing what a human being would interpret as unconditional compassion, freedom from judgement, stigma, embarrassment, insult and exile.
- Specialist Know-How: Assist us with completing tasks where we lack the know-how thanks to generative AI's expansive general knowledge and ability to communicate clearly when prompted accurately.
- Executive Summary: Summarize large quantities of information in digestible format with explanations that meet us at our levels of understanding.
- Reflection of Human Society: Generative AI is trained on all the data humans have created on the internet. It should be no surprise when it outputs human responses and does things in ways human do. Humans are not infallible and neither is generative AI. This also includes "hallucinations", which humans are also susceptible to in the form of lies. AI can show us our flaws as a society and guide us on where we need to direct our focus.
